Hair Care ~ Coconut Oil and Vinegar

My research on Coconut Oil and its many uses and benefits has taken me on quite a journey.  From our toes to the hair on our heads, it seems there is something good that it can do for us!  Couple that with the many uses of vinegar and my mind is boggled!

There's no way to just blog once about either.  Too much information.  Too much debate.  So, today I am taking one thing...hair conditioning.  Let's see what Coconut Oil and Vinegar can do for our hair.

Coconut Oil:
Depending on whether the Coconut Oil is in liquid form or solid, take just enough in your hand to cover your hair and scalp.  Rub it in, cover it with a shower cap or plastic wrap and wait 2 or more hours.  Some recommendations say to let it stay on overnight.  I'm not sure I want to sleep with plastic on my head, but you may decide that is the method for you.

After the time period has passed, rinse your hair (several times) to eliminate all of the oil.  It is said this can perk up dry hair and add lustre and shine to your tresses.  I can use that!  HB (HoneyBunny) has dry scalp, so I am thinking this will help his itching and flaking.  We'll be testing it out this weekend.

Vinegar:
Vinegar is also a wonderful hair rinse.  Just mix 1 cup of vinegar and 2 cups of warm water and work it into your hair as you would with any commercial rinse.  Rinse again with plain water.

As a dandruff fighter, mix 1/2 cup vinegar with 2 cups warm water and massage scalp.  You could leave it on for as long as one half hour if desired.  It is recommended to rinse in this manner at least once a week, or as often as once daily.

This, too, we will be testing.  We like the idea that these are natural rinses and we are not using the stuff made with chemicals and petroleum.  Another baby green step for us!

  1. I love vinegar for my hair and my children's hair! I also use coconut milk for my hair - it does wonders but will try coconut oil as the milk can leave a bad smell sadly.

I am busy conducting experiments in this area, have a look here http://kingsdaughters21.blogspot.co.uk/2011/12/natures-way.html

  2. I have tried this once (with the coconut oil in my hair) and had a very hard time rinsing it out..... :(
I will be interested to hear how your hair looks afterwards - - and what your method was. My rinsing method may have been off or something because I know a lot of people use this as a deep conditioner.
Thanks for stopping by my blog!! Following you back (:

    1. Mrs No-No - I have used it overnight and it washed out fine with two washings in the shower. I rubbed the oil on my hands and ran my fingers through my hair, so I didn't get too much on my hair. (Didn't want to slide out of bed! LOL) My hair feels much softer.
