Do you suffer with throbbing or sharp headache pain? If you do, you already know how difficult it is to live with this pain. The cause could be one of three different kinds of headaches - tension, cluster, and migraine headaches. They may be acute or chronic. A headache is described as acute if it occurs one time and lasts for a short amount of time. Chronic headaches are reoccurring and longer lasting headaches. Either one can tend to make us a little on the grumpy side, if you know what I mean!
Headaches can have many causes. Therefore, a prescription from your health care professional or an over-the-counter pill is not always the answer to the problem. Some causes include, but are not limited to, tension, stress, eyestrain, dehydration, low blood sugar, and sinusitis. The key to finding the remedy for your headache is knowing what is causing them. Then you can treat it with any number of home remedies such as: aromatherapy, exercise, and massage.
Known as one of the most powerful home remedies for headaches, aromatherapy works though scents and affects each person differently. This is because people relate different smells with different things in their life. Some scents that are known to work out for many people are sandalwood, peppermint, eucalyptus, and lavender. These scents can be used alone or mixed together. You can try these scents in candles, essential massage oils, or soaps, but keep in mind that when buying scents you may want to buy higher quality products. Sometimes the cheaper products may make your headache worse.
Regular exercise is good in helping you to cope with the pain of headaches. This method is especially effective for those who suffer from migraines. You can begin by starting to walk half an hour a day. If you are in the middle of a headache you can try taking a brisk walk outside. This seems to work because the exercise helps your body release endorphins, which are the body’s natural painkillers. It is recommended that you ease into this remedy so as not to make your headache worse. I haven’t tried this method, but I won’t discount it…it may work for some. I haven’t had a migraine in years, but I don’t think I would have felt much like exercising or walking when I had one. I just wanted a dark room to sleep in till it went away!
Massage as a home remedy for headaches too. I like using essential oils with the massage. If you have help you can ask someone to massage your shoulders and the back of your neck, and then ask them to press their fingers on the base of your skull. Then slowly release the pressure when done. This can be done repeatedly. It seems to feel better when you have someone else doing it for you.

You may want to find a masseuse in your area that specializes in this. However, you can do the massaging yourself and get good results. Begin by rotating your fingers over your scalp. Or, try putting pressure on your hand between your index finger and thumb for another way to get relief. This will need to be done on the webbed part. A foot massage is also good for a headache, because you will hit certain pressure points in your feet that trigger your brain.
Headaches do not have to be treated by medications. Too much medicine and you will risk the loss of effectiveness with each additional dose. Natural remedies are best and do not introduce chemicals into your body. So, if at all possible, try out these home remedies before turning to medication.
